We stayed at the lovely Yarn Market Hotel in the pretty village of Dunster. Julian Wilkes, the proprietor of Wilkes Walks organised everything and produced a programme of walks which showcased the magnificent and varied scenery of Exmoor. Julian is not only a very experienced tour manager and walk leader, he ensured that all our walks were safe and that everyone was taken care of. We were in very good hands.I cannot recommend a holiday with Wilkes Walks too highly.Posted on Google Hugh Parker28/06/2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was a fabulous break. Everything is well organised, food is varied, very tasty and substantial (I'm a veggie). The hotel was clean, and characterful with fantastic staff members. The walks over 4 days from Minehead to Countisbury to Hunters' Inn to Combe Martin which included time for a swim in the bay were led excellently at a pace that matched all abilities by a knowledgeable and fun walk leader who was also an incredibly safe pair of hands and accomplished communicator. I'll definitely book again with Wilkes Walks. Thank youPosted on Google Ana Lucia Schofield27/06/2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wonderful time spent this week with Julien on the Exmoors South West Coast Path - 22-27 June 2026! 2nd year with his tours. He is such a good leader and his knowledge of the area is second to none! With the hardest ever hot weather this week, we completed 36 miles and with a certificate! The accomodation at Dunster is excellent comfy rooms, plentiful and freshly cooked food, variety of packed lunches and all the west country hospitality charm! Thank you Julian for another great walking holiday! Looking forward to next year🤩🤩Posted on Google Claire Neech04/08/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. A lovely week away in Exmoor. A cosy, friendly hotel with good food. Great walks which were made even better by Julian's knowledge of the area and the flora and fauna. Definitely recommended!Posted on Google CAROLINE13/05/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our Ramblers group booked 3 days walking in Exmoor with Julian. His choice of hotel in Dunster was excellent as its central, is geared up for walkers with 3 course / 4 choice dinners, hearty breakfasts and their own transport. Very good value for a guided walking break meaning none of our leaders had the stress of leading. Julian so knowledgeable and although i’m not up on plant names, Julian is and shared his knowledge with the group. Very safe, clear guiding, and he even managed good weather 👍Posted on Google denise cherry11/05/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Eighteen of us recently enjoyed an excellent 3 days walking on Exmoor led by Julian. We gave him an idea of our abilities in advance -10/12 miles at a moderate pace - and he devised 3 varied walks to suit us including open moorland, secluded valleys and coastal paths. His knowledge of the plants and trees enhanced our enjoyment. He is good company and we appreciated his 'light touch' as leader. He arranged our accommodation at the Yarn Market Hotel where we were very comfortable and enjoyed ample, tasty meals. We wouldn't hesitate to join Wilkes Walks again.Posted on Google Mary Boyle08/05/2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Julian was an excellent leader. Extremely well led by Julian, who took care to spend time en route with the tortoises and the hares in our sociable group. Wonderful array of locations on moors, valleys, woods, coast path and stream side. Nice old hotel with friendly staff and good catering.Posted on Google Kirsty Evans23/04/2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fabulous week with Wilkes Walks’ “Enticing Exmoor” based at Yarn Market Hotel, a warm and friendly family-run hotel in beautiful Dunster. Excellent organisation and leadership as always by Julian Wilkes. Great company of small group of walkers from all parts of the UK. Julian knows the area so well that he was able to accommodate our varying abilities to everyone’s satisfaction, with plenty of rest and refreshment stops to keep us all happy. Brilliant holiday, and would highly recommend as a way of seeing the varied landscapes of this beautiful part of the world.Posted on Google Marina jeffrey27/05/2023Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The WILKES WALKS Mission

I’m really passionate about walking and spending time with like-minded folk in the great outdoors. In 2008 I gave up my office job and changed career to follow my dreams.
Since then I have been a walks’ leader and guide and I’ve never looked back. I have led over 166 tours across the world, from the European Alps to trekking in Nepal, from the Peruvian jungle to the Caribbean coast, and so much more.
I want your walking holiday to be fun, well organised and engaging. I love to share my knowledge of all things flora and fauna, as well as some local history. On a ‘Wilkes Walks’ tour there is always lots of fresh air, good company and beautiful scenery to soak up, not to mention a well-earned drink before dinner in the evenings.
Wilkes Walks is my business: Come and walk with me in some stunning locations.
